Police Recover Stolen GPS

In the early morning hours on Saturday June 8th at 0207 hours Swatara Township Police were dispatched to the 700 block of Garden Drive in the Chambers Hill area of the Township for the report of a suspicious male trying to enter a vehicle.  Officers responded to the area and observed 3 males.

Shooting Investigation Suspect In Custody

On 06-04-2013 at about 1010 hrs. patrol officers were dispatched to the 1900 block of Walnut St. on a report of a shooting.  Witness accounts provided that Strollen Battle was wildly upset and threatened to kill a woman who was sitting in a parked car.  He fired several shots at her while threatening to kill her.  She was able to duck down in the car and then got out and ran to safety.  Battle then fired at a man associated with the woman.  Fortunately no one was injured.  Battle got into a waiting car and it sped off..

Police Search for Suspect in Bank Robbery

On June 3rd at 2:36 PM, Swatara Township Police responded to the Mid Penn Bank located at 4509 Derry Street for a robbery.  Upon arrival, officers learned that a suspect had entered the bank and handed a demand note to one of the tellers.  The note made mention of a gun, but no weapon was ever displayed.  The teller provided the suspect with an undisclosed amount of cash and the suspect fled through the front doors of the bank.  He was last seen running to the east side of the bank building.  Officers searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect.

Bike Rodeo Shows Kids Safe Riding Skills!

On Saturday, May 25, 2013, the Swatara Township Police Department sponsored its second annual Children’s Bicycle Rodeo at the Capital Blue Cross building located at 3815 Techport Drive Harrisburg, PA.  Children ages 5-12 were taught skills and defensive riding techniques to help them become safe riders to enhance their enjoyment of bicycling.

Police Make Arrest in Stolen Gun Case

On May 28, 2013 at approximately 10:00 pm the Swatara Township Police were dispatched for the report of the theft of a handgun in the parking lot of the Walmart in the 6500 Block of Grayson Road. Upon arrival, the victim reported his shoulder bag was stolen from his motor-chair while in the parking lot. The shoulder bag contained personal belongings and a 9 mm handgun.

Operation School Guardian

 In light of increased acts of violence perpetrated against innocent lives at schools across our country, the Swatara Township Police Department has initiated an increased presence at local educational facilities.

This new initiative, dubbed “Operation School Guardian,” requires patrol officers to make regular, frequent, unannounced visits to each of the Township schools for foot patrols of the interior and exterior. It also requires officers to regularly appear during school lunches to interact with students and staff.

T.E.A.M. Training - Class of 2012

The Swatara Township Police Department hosted a T.E.A.M. training school July 23-26, 2012 at the Swatara Township Municipal Building. T.E.A.M. stands for Teaching, Educating, and Mentoring and is being instituted in the schools to replace the DARE program.
