School students start back to school today for most of our area, so please be safe, watch for children walking to school or their bus stop. Please be aware of school buses on their routes and stop for buses and students when the flashing red lights and stop paddles are activated. Passing a school bus while they are stopped to pick up or drop off students can lead to a traffic citation and a suspension of driving privileges. Also be aware of active school zones around the schools and slow down in these areas. Let's all be safe out there and get these students to
Parking Ordinance 2019-1364 was enacted on 7th August 2019. It relates to updating the parking of certain vehicles in the borough. This update adds travel trailers and recreational vehicles, trailers of certain types, vehicles with 3 or more axles and boats of class 2 or 3 to the list of restricted vehicles from parking on borough streets. The police department will be placing a copy of this new ordinance on vehicles in violation for a period of 45 days from the date enacted as a grace period/warning of the violation.
On August 05, 2019 at 9:25 PM the Swatara Township Police were dispatched to Walmart for an active disturbance.
Upon arrival all participants were located. As a result of this disturbance 3 juvenile females were arrested and transported to the Dauphin County Judicial Center. This case will be handled Juvenile Court system. All 3 were ultimately released to their families.
The parking garage off of North Ridge Road, behind Town Square shops is closed. Things were noticed that put the structural integrity of the parking garage into question. Owners of cars that are parked in the garage are being contacted and asked to remove their cars from the garage. Further inspection and evaluation will be conducted, but until then, the structure will be closed. We are asking people to stay away from this parking garage and use the on-street parking and the intermodal parking garage off North Linden Road.
Milling and resurfacing work on Bullfrog Valley Road between Wood Rd and Roush Rd will result in daytime closures of portions of the roadway beginning Tuesday, June 11th.
Portions of Bullfrog Valley Rd will be closed to all vehicle traffic during the hours of 7am-4pm daily (weather permitting and excluding weekends). Motorists are encouraged to use Waltonville and Sand Hill Roads during maintenance periods.
The project is scheduled to be completed during the week of June 24. ###
The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch for Central Pennsylvania effective at 2:00pm and lasting until 10:00pm. An elevated risk for severe weather and flash flooding exists for our area for the remainder of today and Wednesday, 5/29.
The Derry Township Emergency Management Agency asks that all residents remain vigilant for changing weather conditions particularly those persons engaging in outdoor activities. ###
