Courthouse Update - January 15, 2014

Commonwealth v. Stephen Davis - Jury selection is scheduled to begin this afternoon before Dauphin County Judge Richard A. Lewis in the murder trial of Stephen Davis.  Davis is accused of participating in the December 4, 2012, shooting death of Luis Diaz in the 1100 block of Cloverly Rd., Harrisburg.  Only the jury is being chosen this week.  The trial itself is expected to commence on February 3, 2014.  The case is being prosecuted by Senior Deputy District Attorney John Baer.   Note:  Davis' charges are an accusation at this time and he is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

Commonwealth v. Phillip Pacheco - Phillip L. Pacheco, age 35 of Virginia Beach, VA was sentenced on January 14, 2014, to a minimum of two and a half years in a state correctional facility.  Pacheco was also sentenced to pay a fine of $2000 and will be on parole/probation supervision for five years once he is released.  In 2010, Pennsylvania State Troopers executed a search warrant on Pacheco’s residence in Pillow Borough, Dauphin County after his landlord stumbled across a large scale marijuana growing operation in his rental home.  Troopers discovered 140 high quality marijuana plants as well as fertilizer, circuit breakers, grow lights and a plant cloning mechanism.  Pacheco indicated that he was growing the marijuana for sale in another state.  Senior Deputy District Attorney Stephen R. Zawisky, who heads the Dauphin County Drug Task Force, called the operation “a highly sophisticated grow operation where the defendant allegedly was able to clone numerous high quality plants from a single plant.”    Pacheco's  case was originally scheduled for March of 2011 but Pacheco fled the jurisdiction and was not caught until the Fall of 2013 after authorities discovered he was on facebook.  Pacheco was then extradited back to Pennsylvania where he pleaded guilty.
