On September 11, 2021, Derry Township Police received a tip from an individual who saw a vehicle matching the description from a Crimewatch posting. The posting was from the Elizabethtown Police Department on September 8th, requesting assistance from the public in locating a missing woman. On arrival, officers located said vehicle at the Rio Motel on Washington Avenue, Hershey, PA. Contact was made with the missing woman, who was allegedly being held captive by her estranged husband, Robert Allen Schlegel. Through investigation by officers and assistance of Elizabethtown Borough Police, it was determined the woman was kidnapped and being held against her will for at least three days and Robert Allen Schlegel was immediately taken into custody without incident. Robert Allen Schlegel, 41, of Lyons, Kansas, was charged with - Kidnapping To Inflict Injury/Terror, Unlawful Restraint/Serious Bodily Injury, Simple Assault, Aggravated Assault, Stalking-Repeatedly Communicate to Cause Fear, Strangulation-Applying Pressure to Throat or Neck, Terroristic Threats with Intent to Terrorize Another, and Intimidation of Witness/Victim.
Robert Allen Schlegel was arraigned at the Dauphin County Judicial Center and denied bail. The Derry Township Police Department would like to give special thanks the person who contacted our department which facilitated the safe escape and return of the victim in this case.
