2022 Hershey Lions Club - Officer of the Year
Recently, the Hershey Lions Club held their awards dinner where they honor one educator, one fire fighter, and one police officer, all of whom are nominated for their excellent work in their field, for their organization, and for their community. Our nominee for the 2022 Police Officer of the Year was Officer Nicholas Kauffman. Nick was nominated and then voted to receive this award by his peers.
Nick has been with DTPD for a little over 8 years. In his time with DTPD, he has become readily known for his hard work and dedication to his profession. Nick is also one of our certified Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program Inspectors. He has taken great pride in maintaining that certification and makes sure our roadways are safer by taking unsafe commercial vehicles out of service and off of our highways. He is also one of our Traffic Safety Officers, responsible for investigation crashes and conducting some of the requested Traffic Safety Studies throughout the Township. Nick is also instrumental in planning out some of the large details our department participates in, such as the annual New Year's Eve celebration, concert traffic plans, and parade details.
One of his peers, who nominated Nick for this award, said of him "Nick is very deserving of this award. He is hard-working, dependable, and deserves to be recognized for his service, not only to the police department, but to Derry Township as a whole." Congratulations on a well-deserved recognition, Nick! Congratulations to Jarrett Heisey and Scott Harman for being honored as well!
