Community Notification - DTPD to begin using Body Worn Cameras

The Derry Township Police Department would like to let our community, stakeholders, and our community partners know our department will being using Body Worn Cameras (BWCs) in the near future.  Our department has been awarded a grant through the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD) for the purchase, training, and implementation of a BWC program.  Through this grant award, our department will be able to purchase BWCs for every sworn member of the department to utilize during contacts and interactions involving our officers and those we serve.  We are hoping it will provide another layer of transparency to the excellent service we strive to provide each and every day for our community.  We are currently in the process of finalizing our policies to guide our officers and staff in the use of these devices, as well as the storage and handling of the data captured by the BWCs.  We hope to purchase and train our officers and staff in March/April 2021 and have our program implemented soon after.  We would also like to take this moment to thank PCCD and our partners at Getac for this opportunity to continue our tradition of excellence in police work and service to our community.
