Employment Opportunity - School Crossing Guard

The Derry Township Police Department is currently accepting applications for Part-Time School Crossing Guards to perform duties associated with ensuring the safety of school children as they go to and from Derry Township schools. 


  • Must be a United States citizen and 18 years of age or older.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License.  [Out of state applicants must obtain a valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License within 60 days of hire.]
  • Must possess a High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Must conform to Derry Township Police Department General Order 26.3 regarding Appearance & Grooming at the time of hire. [Available for review upon accessing the online employment application.] 


  • Works assigned shifts assisting school students in safely crossing the streets, roads, highways at designated crossings, while going to and from school buildings during school hours.
  • Assists vehicle traffic to safely and efficiently traverse or travel through the school zones at designated posts during specified times.
  • Assists and expedites the safe movement of official school vehicles at designated posts and times.
  • Assists students as needed.
  • Stays alert for suspicious persons or vehicles observed in the school zones, reporting it to the Police Department.
  • Reports to the Police Department any vehicles observed speeding or driving recklessly through the school zones.
  • Escorts kindergarten children from the elementary school building across certain designated crosswalks.

This position’s starting wage is $12.68 per shift. The average workday consists of 6 shifts ($76.08): 3 shifts ($38.04) during morning arrival and 3 shifts ($38.04) during afternoon dismissal.

Finalists will undergo a thorough background investigation to include criminal history and child clearances.
