Homicide/Arson Suspect wanted by Derry Township Police

The Derry Township Police Department is currently looking for Calvin Lorenzo Purdie, Jr., 33 years old, who has been charged in the death of Charlotte Chaplin, 49, and for the arson at 517 West Chocolate Avenue, Hershey on May 23, 2019.  Through investigation it was determined that Purdie killed Chaplin by strangulation and then set the fire in the bedroom in which the homicide took place in order to destroy or cover up evidence.  While investigators were on the scene of the fire investigation, they noticed that Purdie had visible scratch marks on his face and arms, consistent with having been in a recent violent struggle.  As detectives continued their investigation into the arson and homicide of Chaplin, evidence implicated Purdie as the person responsible.  When Purdie found this out, he turned off his cell phone and has absconded, eluding investigators and authorities.

Derry Township Police have obtained an arrest warrant for Purdie and are actively looking for him with the assistance of local, state and federal agencies.  Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Calvin Lorezno Purdie, Jr. is asked to contact Derry Township Police at (717) 534-2202 or submit an anonymous tip through our Crimewatch Portal.  You can use the link in this release or at the top right corner of our Crimewatch page where it says "Submit a tip!"  Such tips may be eligible for reward through Crimestoppers.
