On November 25, 2018 at approximately 11:35 a.m., Harrisburg Police received a call from a vehicle owner who stated that their vehicle had been stolen. The owner tried to follow the vehicle but lost site of it a few blocks away. The owner returned home and called the police. The vehicle was last observed in the area of S. 25th Street and Brookwood Street.
Officers responded to the area and the vehicle was observed on S. 20th Street and Kensington Street. Officers confirmed that the vehicle was stolen and attempted to stop it. The driver refused to stop the vehicle and fled from the officers. Officers indicated that the vehicle was increasing speed and the pursuit was terminated. The pursuing officers stopped and parked their vehicles.
The vehicle continued accelerating its speed, lost control, and crashed into a large tree on the 2500 block of Brookwood Street. The driver was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. The two other occupants were also transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
The departments Traffic Safety Unit was called in and will continue the investigation.
