Fight at John Harris

On January 23, 2019, the Harrisburg School District was hosting a basketball game against York.  The School District was concerned of social media activity that indicated there may be problems at the game and they contacted the Harrisburg Police.  The District requested additional officers for the game and the request was approved.  The School District also moved the game time from 7 pm start time to 5 pm to avoid conflicts that may arise.  Arrangements were made to have four York County Police Officers present during the game to assist if there were any problems.  There were no issues during the game

After the game finished the fans left the building and congregated out front causing a gridlock with vehicles attempting to leave the parking area.  A fight broke out within the large group and Officers were not able to get to the fight due to the amount of people.  Officers deployed their pepper spray to disperse the crowd, allowing the officers to get to the fight.  The individuals involved fled as officers arrived.  Officers identified the victim who did not wish to file criminal charges and who refused medical treatment.

As this was occurring there was a large group of approximately 100 students causing a disturbance outside the McDonalds located in Kline Village Plaza.  Officers deployed pepper spray in the area to disperse the crowd; which they did.

Once the crowds were dispersed, Officers assisted with traffic control to help everyone leave the parking area in an orderly manner.
