On Saturday August 29th, at about 12:55pm, the Harrisburg Police were dispatched to the area of North 18th and Forster Streets for a report of shot fired. Upon arrival officers were directed, by residents in the area, towards a suspect seen fleeing the area on foot. Officers were able to locate the fleeing suspect, give chase, and take the suspect into custody. Officers also located a victim who appeared to be suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim, a juvenile, was rushed to a local hospital and later died as a result of their injuries. An investigation into the incident revealed the following:
Witnesses in the area observed the suspect, identified as Orlando Duarte, chasing after a juvenile. Duarte was armed with a handgun while chasing the juvenile, and subsequently was armed with a handgun when taken into custody by officers. Witnesses indicated that Duarte had fired multiple shots at the juvenile.
Duarte has been charged with Criminal Homicide and Possession of a Firearm Prohibited.
