On Sunday 4-11-21 at about 7PM Harrisburg Police Patrol Units responded to a residence in the Downtown area of the City in response to a call about a suicidal person.
Upon arrival they met with the party, who was armed with a loaded handgun.
The Officers responded by establishing communication with the individual from points of cover. The dialogue continued for an extended period of time, and ended when the responding Officers were able to convince the individual to drop the weapon and allow them to provide access to mental health assistance.
The Officers, several of whom have received "Crisis Intervention Training" from an ongoing program through the Dauphin County District Attorney's Office, were able to disarm the individual with no harm to the subject or themselves. The individual is currently undergoing mental health treatment.
