On Saturday, April 24, 2021 at about 1:30 AM, Harrisburg Police Officers responded to the area of the Dock Street Dam on the Susquehanna River, in response to a call about a suicidal person.
Upon arrival, they met with the individual, who was on the steps along the river, stating they were going to jump into the water to commit suicide. Officers established a dialogue with the person, who inched closer to the river and placed their feet in the water.
Harrisburg Bureau of Fire and Harrisburg River Rescue deployed boats and resources to the area. Officers spoke with the person for approximately 20 minutes, eventually convincing the person to walk up the steps and away from the water.
Neither the individual nor the Officers were harmed. The individual is undergoing mental health treatment.
