Two Injured By Gunfire As Crowds Get Violent
On 09/24/17 at 0240 hours, Harrisburg Police Officers responded to an augment on the 200 block of N 2nd Street. Officers arrived and arrested a male that had assaulted another person. As the officers took this male into custody several more fights erupted outside of the bars. Due to the overwhelming amount of people committing violence, officers had to use pepper spray foggers to subdue the crowd. Harrisburg Police requested mutual aid from other police departments to include PSP due to the size and demeanor of the unruly crowd. Officers dealt with multiple fights in the area around Arooga’s and Niko’s Restaurants. Officers the heard gunfire coming from the area of “The Capital Gastro Pub”. As people were fleeing from the area, officers ran in to confront the gunman. Additional officers were not able to drive into the area as people were blocking the roadway.
Officers began checking the area and heard additional shots being fired in the 200 block of Pine St. Officers moved into this area and searched for the shooter(s) and victims. Officers found a female victim lying on the sidewalk across the street from “The Capital Gastro Pub”. She was suffering from a gunshot wound to her leg. A tourniquet was applied by the officers as they waited for an ambulance to arrive. Officers continued looking for additional victims as groups of people stated that a male was also shot. Minutes later a male arrived at Harrisburg Hospital seeking treatment for a gunshot wound to his leg.
Officers located bullet casings in the doorway of the Santander Bank located on the south-east corner of the 200 block of Pine Street. all evidence was collected at the scene. Neither victim could provide any information on the shooter(s) as they indicated that they were walking on the sidewalk when the shots began. Despite hundreds of people being on the street, no witnesses came forward to assist officer with information as to what happened.
