On Monday, July 8th, 2019 @ approx. 1:00pm, Hummelstown Borough Police Department was notified of a theft of a 3' x 5' American flag that was on display on W. Main St, at the town square.
A passerby on W. Main St, observed a white juvenile male remove the flag from its location on the brick sidewalk. The suspect ran behind Rhoads Pharmacy with the flag. The passerby followed the male to Long Alley and found the flag and pole lying on the ground. He observed the suspect get into a car with other juvenile males and drive away.
The passerby returned the flag to a group of boy scouts who were collecting the flags to put back into storage.
Police obtained HD CCTV video footage from Rhoad's Pharmacy. Through this video footage we were able to identify and make contact with the suspect. The suspect, upon viewing the camera footage, immediately admitted to taking the flag.
The juvenile male has been charged with one count of Theft. Criminal charges will be handled by Dauphin County Juvenile Probation Services.
The Hummelstown Borough Police Department would like to thank the passerby for their assistance, as well as Rhoads Pharmacy in this case. With their assistance, the flag was returned and the juvenile will be held accountable
