HBPD has partnered with Project ChildSafe for several years in promoting safe firearms handling and storage practices. Gun lock kits have been provided by Project ChildSafe and are available to Borough residents at the Hummelstown Borough Municipal Building, 261 Quarry Rd. Hummelstown, Pa. 17036 between the hours of 8 AM and 4 PM, at no charge.
Project ChildSafe is the largest firearms safety education program in the U.S. Developed by the National Shooting Sports Foundation, a partnership with more than 15,000 law enforcement agencies has helped distribute more than 37 million firearm safety kits to gun owners.
In light of a recent accidental discharge of a firearm within an apartment building, HBPD would like to remind gun owners of their responsibility to properly store and secure their firearms. Safe and proper storage is the #1 way to prevent firearms accidents in the home.
Project ChildSafe's initiative is "Own It? Respect It. Secure It."
