The Hummelstown Borough Police Department in partnership with CRIMEWATCH is proud to announce the launch of a new voluntary program that aims to help Police Officers in potentially dangerous situations by having access to a registry of individuals who may need special care.

The Handle with Care registry will provide responding Officers with a list of community members who may have special needs like Autism or suffer from illnesses like Alzheimer’s or Dementia.

The registry will have contact information for loved ones as well as descriptions and photos to assist Officers in identifying someone who may be non-verbal or cannot remember who they are or where they live. The registry has a section to provide consideration regarding calming methods and potential triggers to assist Officers in deescalating a potentially dangerous situation.
