On 2/4/2023, the Lower Paxton Bureau of Police stopped a solicitor in the parking lot of Burger King on Union Deposit Rd. The suspect was identified as Korie Thomas-Atkins, who was found to have bench warrant for his arrest. The Officer on-scene attempted to take the suspect into custody and the suspect fled on foot. During the foot pursuit, the Officer suffered a serious injury and Law Enforcement from across the area responded to assist. The Officer was also assisted by several compassionate citizens who immediately recognized the Officer's need for help. The Officer was subsequently taken to a local hospital for treatment and is in stable condition. A felony arrest warrant was issued for Mr. Thomas-Atkins.
On 2/5/2023, Susquehanna Township Police observed Mr. Thomas-Atkins in the 300 block of N. Progress Ave. The Lower Paxton Police responded to the scene and attempted to take the suspect into custody. The suspect then barricaded himself in his residence armed with a knife. Through the combined efforts of the Susquehanna Police, the Lower Paxton Police and the Dauphin County Crisis Response Team, the suspect was able to be reasoned with and eventually came out on his own. He was placed into custody and transported to a local hospital for evaluation.
The Lower Paxton Police would like to thank those took part in helping our injured Officer and safely apprehending the suspect. Specifically, we would like to recognize the Susquehanna Police for their outstanding professionalism. Their successful de-escalation of the situation resulted in the suspect being taken into custody with no serious injuries to anyone involved.
