On February 10 at 1:57 pm, Lower Paxton Police were dispatched to the 100 block of Ringneck Drive for a report of a suicidal subject armed with a gun.
The 911 caller reported that she was on the phone with the subject and that he had revealed to her that he wanted to end his life. The caller further reported that she heard a single gunshot and that the subject had indicated to her that he was testing his weapon to make sure that it worked.
Responding patrol units immediately established a perimeter around the residence and confirmed that a single gunshot had been fired into the wood line directly behind the property.
With the assistance of the apartment complex employees, Lower Paxton Police were able to advise residents near the scene to shelter in place. Lower Paxton Police also contacted the nearby schools instructed them to divert any school bus traffic from the area.
The Susquehanna Township Police Department sent officers and a negotiator to assist Lower Paxton officers already on scene.
Negotiators were eventually able to contact the subject via telephone. After speaking with him at length, they were able to de-escalate the situation and convince him to exit the residence.
The subject was taken into protective custody without incident at approximately 3:08 pm. He was transported to the hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
The Lower Paxton Police Department thanks all those who participated in this coordinated effort to bring about a safe and peaceful resolution.
