Repair and Repaving Project Starting Soon on Colonial Road in Lower Paxton Township
-- Project includes new traffic pattern at McIntosh/Meadow Crest Roads --
Harrisburg, PA – A highway improvement project is scheduled to begin on Monday, July 16, to repair and resurface nearly 2.7 miles of Colonial Road, between Route 22 and Route 39 in Lower Paxton Township, Dauphin County. Colonial Road is officially designated as State Route 3017. A little more than 11,200 vehicles travel on Colonial Road on a daily basis. Route 39 is known locally as Linglestown Road.
Motorists are advised there will be no traffic lane restrictions weekday mornings between 6 AM and 8:30 AM or in the afternoons between 3:30 PM and 6 PM in the portion of Colonial Road between Linglestown Road and Ethel Street. In the remainder of the project – in the vicinity of the Colonial Park Mall between Ethel Street and Route 22 -- there will be no traffic lane restrictions weekdays between 6 AM and 9 PM. During all other times, motorists should be prepared to encounter a single lane traffic restriction on Colonial Road, with flaggers assisting them through the work area. The work near the mall will be conducted during the overnight hours.
Motorists are also advised to be alert to this construction activity, to pay attention and obey work zone signs, and to slow down when approaching and traveling through the work zone – for their safety as well as for the safety of the construction crews.
PennDOT has contracted with Pennsy Supply, Inc. of Annville, Pennsylvania, to conduct the highway improvement project at a cost of $1,717,215. The project will consist of repairs to the road base, milling – which is the removal of the old asphalt surface, and a new asphalt overlay. The milling and resurfacing will take place between Route 22 and a short distance north of Devonshire Road (just beyond the shops at Colonial Crossings) and also in the vicinity of Linglestown Road. The remaining portion of Colonial Road, which has no curbing, will receive an asphalt overlay. Also included in the project will be guide rail updates, updated signing and pavement markings, the installation of ADA ramps, and drainage improvements.
In addition, a new traffic pattern will be installed at the intersection between Colonial Road and McIntosh Road to the west and Meadow Crest Road to the east. Left turns from Colonial Road to these roads will be prohibited -- only right turn movements onto these roads or from them will be allowed.
The overall project should wrap up by early November.
