Scams

The Penbrook Police Department has recently been receiving a large number of calls regarding scams.  The scammers call from what appear to be local telephone numbers and identify themselves as IRS, Immigration or other law enforcement.  They tell the victim there is an active warrant for their arrest.  In order to cancel the warrant, the scammers instruct the victim to provide sensitive information including address and social security numbers.  The scammers also sometimes instruct the victim to send them money via gift cards or ask for bank account information.

If you receive a call from someone claiming to be law enforcement requesting your banking information, credit card numbers, or requesting money via gift card, it is always a scam.
