On Wednesday February 14, 2018, at approximately 2:25 pm, Steelton Police officers were at the Steelton Highspire High School for a meeting with “The Harrisburg Promise” program to become mentors to students who may be struggling in their academics. As officers entered the building, they were met by school officials advising of a large fight on the side entrance of the building. Officers diverted and rushed to the scene of 100 plus kids involved in some sort of fight. Officers provided verbal commands and attempted to use their sirens to disperse the crowd with failed attempts. As officers were informed that a parent may be physically attacking a juvenile student, one Steelton Police Officer deployed pepper spray above the crowd to disperse and render aid. At no time was the pepper spray directly sprayed at any person, however used in the proper manner to disperse a large crowd. After the crowd dispersed, Steelton Officers began to investigate the incident, which was later turned over to Swatara Police after they arrived on scene.
