Fraud

The Susquehanna Township Police are attempting to identify a male and a female that are involved in a pre-paid gift card scam.  The male will legitimately purchase a pre-paid gift card and then make an excuse as to why he needs to return it.  Meanwhile, the female is selecting the exact same pre-paid card and will discretely pass off the inactivated card to the male, who then returns it to the clerk.  The male and female then make off with the activated card and a full refund while the store is left with the inactivated card.

The most recent incident with these two suspects was on June 28, 2014 at approximately 4:30 pm at the Unimart on N. Front St.  The suspects arrived in a dark grey VW Passat.  The male entered the store and selected a $100 pre-paid Visa card while the female waited outside the store smoking a cigarette.  The female then entered the store and selected the exact same pre-paid Visa and switched the cards, with her male counterpart, unbeknownst to the clerk.  The male stated that the card was to be a graduation gift for an out of country relative and didn’t realize that the card was not able to be used outside of the U.S.

Police ask anyone who may be able to identify either of these people to contact Detective Lee A. Tarasi @ 909-9259 or email LTarasi@susquehannatwp.com  Anonymous tips may also be left at 909-TIPS.
