On November 2, 2013 at around 8:15 PM the Swatara Township Police department received a complaint about an erratic driver on US 322-Westbound who had been in a minor hit and run accident with an off duty Pennsylvania State Police Trooper in the parking lot of a restaurant in Derry Township. When Officers located and stopped the vehicle they noticed that the driver, Cathy Mirarchi, had an odor of an alcoholic beverage on her breath and she displayed signs indicative of intoxication. Mirarchi also admitted to Officers that she had at least one alcoholic beverage in addition to taking prescribed narcotic medication.
Mirarchi was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and a control substance and after a blood test it was determined that her blood alcohol level (BAC) was .129%, above the legal limit of .08%. The blood test also showed a presence of marijuana. Cathy Mirarchi has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of a controlled substance, and careless driving.
