Arrests made in vehicle break-ins

On 10/25/2017 at 0322 hours Swatara Township Police responded to a citizen's report that two males were looking into parked cars near the intersection of Knapp Drive and Farmhouse Lane. Multiple officers responded and established a perimeter in the neighborhood as the suspects began running through back yards in an attempt to evade apprehension. The Harrisburg Bureau of Police K-9 Unit responded to assist and located 19-year-old CHANNING SMITH hiding in the area. He was taken into custody. The second suspect, a juvenile male, was not located until about 0700 hours when officers found him walking in the neighborhood. Neighbors had observed this juvenile walking in and out of a wooded area and through the back yards of different homes. These perceptive residents understood that this was not normal behavior and took the initiative to contact the police, which led directly to his arrest.

It was also determined that both suspects had driven to the area in a Honda CRV which had been reported as stolen from a resident in South Lebanon Township on 10/15/2017. This vehicle was recovered and the owner was contacted. Further investigation revealed that these two suspects had stolen items from numerous vehicles in the area.

The Swatara Township Police would like to thank the residents who assisted in this investigation. Your attention to detail and courage to make the necessary phone calls allowed for this case to be resolved quickly. Well done!
