Bicycle Rodeo Cancelled

Due to inclement weather and low participation, this weekend’s Bicycle Rodeo is cancelled.  We do apologize for any inconvenience.  There is no make up-date for this event.  We also apologize to the children who were looking forward to this event.  Thank you to those parents who signed their child up and for taking a vested interest in their safety!

On Saturday, May 13, 2017, beginning at 9:00 a.m., the Swatara Township Police Department will be hosting its fifth annual Children’s Bicycle Rodeo at 3815 Tecport Drive, Harrisburg, (behind the Capital Blue Cross building in Swatara Township). New this year, the Rodeo will have time slots which will be, 9:00 a.m. -10:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Time slots are not guaranteed and are filled on a first come first serve basis. A confirmation email will be sent out after registration forms are received. 

Children ages 5-12 will be taught skills and defensive riding techniques to help them become safe riders to enhance their enjoyment of bicycling. All participants will complete the following bicycle safety stations: helmet check, bike inspection, obstacle course and learn proper signaling and the rules of the road. Children must have their own bicycle and helmet to participate and sneakers or shoes that can be fastened must be worn to participate. No flip flops or sandals may be worn. We also ask that you reinforce to your children that they may not participate without wearing helmets throughout the activity, no exceptions will be made.

Pre-registration is required by Wednesday, May 10. If the minimum numbers of registrants is not met by May 10th, the event may be canceled. All parents will be notified by phone should this occur. Each child will also be entered into a raffle for one boy’s bike and one girl’s bike as well as a new helmet also courtesy of Target at High Pointe Commons.
