Motor Vehicle Accident Involving Motorcycle
On Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at approximately 3:38 a.m., a Swatara Township Police patrol unit observed a motorcycle driving erratically and at a high rate of speed westbound in the 4000 block of Chambers Hill Road. Due to these conditions the office chose not to purse this vehicle. Shortly after observing this motorcycle on Chambers Hill Road the officer came upon an accident scene at the intersection of Chambers Hill Road and Harrisburg Street in which the involved motorcycle lost control, left the roadway and entered the wooded area near the intersection. The officer found and immediately began providing emergency first aid to both the driver and the passenger who had sustained serious, life threatening injuries during the crash. The driver was determined to be 20 year old Brian Lear of West Hanover Township and the passenger was 20 year old Juliet Szagola of Steelton. Both Lear and Szagola were transported to nearby trauma centers where they are receiving care for injuries sustained during the crash. Officers from the Swatara Township Police Department and the Dauphin County Accident Reconstruction Team are conducting an investigation into the accident.
