New Pedestrian Signs
After receiving complaints about motorists failing to yield the right-of-way to pedestrians in crosswalks on Derry Street, the Swatara Township Police Department studied the possibility of additional signage between 50th Street and 43rd Street. The result was the purchase of six warning signs that were placed on the double yellow lines of Derry Street, warning drivers that they must yield to pedestrians in the crosswalks. This particular section of Derry Street has a lot of pedestrian traffic due to its proximity to a large residential neighborhood, local businesses, and a large Township park. Motorists who fail to yield the right-of-way to pedestrians face a $50 fine and additional costs and fees. Please pay attention while driving and yield to pedestrians crossing the roadway; Swatara Township Police Officers will be watching for violations.
