On November 14th 2017 leadership from the Swatara Township Police Department and Steelton Borough Police Department met with school administrators at the Steelton-Highspire High School to discuss recent after-school incidents involving students. Attendees discussed several ideas to address these incidents and plan to meet again in the coming months to continue the analysis of the situation.
Both Police Departments have committed to an increased presence around the High School, Elementary School, and surrounding residential areas at dismissal time to make positive contacts with the students and address incidents of bad behavior. Residents of Swatara Township and Steelton Borough are strongly encouraged to call for police if they observe any students walking home from school displaying behavior that is unacceptable.
Attendees of today’s meeting are committed to the safety and security of students and residents, and have agreed to work together in an effort to improve the educational experience of the students and the quality of life for residents.
