Removal of snow & ice from sidewalks

The Swatara Township Police would like to remind residents and business owners that sidewalks must be cleared of snow and ice within 24 hours after any precipitation has concluded. Keeping your sidewalks clear is important for the safety of pedestrians, especially the safety of our kids who are walking to & from school and bus stops. Failure to clear your sidewalks within 24 hours violates Swatara Township Ordinance 249-19 which is listed below. Furthermore, snow and ice removed from sidewalks cannot be placed into the street, as that would also violate Township Ordinances. Failure to comply with Township Ordinances MAY result in the issuance of a citation.

If you require assistance with removing snow and/or ice from your sidewalks, we ask that you call upon family members and/or neighbors to lend some assistance. If that is not an option, there are several local companies that can be hired to clear the sidewalks.
