Snow emergency declared for Swatara Township

As of March 21, 2018, at 11 A.M., Swatara Township is under a declared “Snow & Ice Emergency” in accordance with Township Ordinance 2004-6, §271-49. The "Snow & Ice Emergency" will conclude on March 22, 2018 at 7 A.M. unless weather conditions require it to be extended. The following Township Ordinance is now in effect:

§271-50  Parking prohibited and driving restricted on snow emergency routes during emergency.

After any snow emergency is declared, it shall be unlawful, at any time during the continuance of the emergency, for any person:

A.  To park a motor vehicle or to allow that vehicle to remain parked anywhere on any snow emergency route designated in §271-51 of this article; or

B.  To drive any motor vehicle on any such snow emergency route, unless that vehicle is equipped with snow tires [all-season tires] or chains.

Vehicles parked on a designated snow emergency route must be moved.  Vehicles remaining on designated snow emergency routes between 11 A.M. on March 21, 2018, and 7 A.M. on March 22, 2018, may be towed at the owner’s expense, and the owner may be cited for a violation of §271-50 listed above.
