Swatara Police Exploring Body Worn Cameras

The Swatara Township Police Department have assigned personnel to develop policies and training, research technology and procure grant funding to initiate a Body Worn Camera (BWC) program in 2019.  The police, collaborating with established law enforcement BWC partners, wish to incorporate this technology for the Uniformed Patrol Division.  Public Safety Director Darrell Reider believes that BWC technology provides an additional layer of accurate documentation for the police-public contact, as well as during arrests and critical incident responses.  BWC’s also permit enhanced evaluation of police professionalism and conduct, while being extremely useful as training tools that allow a review of both exemplary police-work and areas for improvement.
