Swatara Township Safe Exchange Zone
The Swatara Township Police Department would like to remind everyone of the Swatara Township Safe Exchange Zone. The front parking lot of the township building has a large green painted location that will be within the view of multiple high-definition cameras with 24/7 video surveillance. Police officers will also be regularly checking on the exchange zone, especially during peak exchange hours. We strongly encourage residents to use the zone, at any time of day, for buying or selling items that have been purchased or sold on any of the various online buying and selling sites, and also for child custody exchanges.
The Swatara Township Police would also like to reinforce some very important safety tips when meeting anyone you do not know for an exchange.
- Always insist on meeting in a public place. Do not go to someone’s residence or meet in a secluded location.
- Be especially careful when buying or selling high value items and try to conduct your transaction during the day. Take only enough money to complete your transaction.
- Have a friend accompany you, keep your cell phone handy, and make sure someone knows where you are going.
- And most importantly, trust your instincts. If something doesn’t feel right, then leave or cancel the meeting. If it looks or sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
