The Borough of Steelton and its Police Department are outraged by the criminal acts of Derek Chauvin and the other Minneapolis Police officers involved in the tragic death of George Floyd. We send our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. There is no justification for the horrific actions that took the life of Mr. Floyd, as our Department stands against brutality and inequality. These actions break trust between members of the community and those who are sworn to protect and serve it. We want to show our solidarity and support to those who are enraged and saddened by yet another needless killing at the hands of a law enforcement officer. These actions are contradictory to the training received by Steelton Borough Police officers, and we will continue to ensure that all of our personnel treats every person with dignity and respect.
The decision to speak up on this matter was made by our officers to show the public that we do not condone these actions by staying silent. We support those who are lawfully protesting and fighting for these injustices to end. We are dedicated to community-oriented policing and fostering positive relationships between residents and police personnel. Together, we can continue to address these inequities through a consistent dialogue and rebuild trust through open communication.
WE HEAR YOU.
