BACKGROUND:
Earlier this year, with the unanimous support of the Dauphin County Chiefs of Police Association, the Commissioners approved hiring the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF) to study whether some or all of the county’s police departments could be merged, while improving public safety and potentially saving tax dollars.
On Tuesday, PERF representatives will present preliminary findings, including seven consolidation options.
Last week, the Commissioners announced that gaming grants will be available to help municipalities interested in consolidation cover some of the additional planning costs. Some state grant money is also available through the Department of Community & Economic Development.
