September 11th is officially called “ PATRIOT’S DAY “, a national day of service and remembrance that commemorates the events of September 11th, 2001. On that day 19 terrorists hijacked four commercial airliners and used those airplanes to carry out suicide attacks against targets in the United States. Two planes flew into the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, a third plane flew into the Pentagon in Washington D.C. and a fourth plane crashed into a field in Shanksville, PA
On that day in 2001, almost 3,000 people died as a result of those attacks. This included 343 Firefighters, 72 Police Officers and 55 Military Personnel. The attacks remain the deadliest terrorist act in world history.
On this 20th year anniversary of 9/11, the Highspire Police extend a thank you to all firefighters, police, military and medical personnel who give and have given selflessly to help others. It seems words are not enough to express the gratitude to those who put their own lives on the line to sometimes save a life of a complete stranger.
“ When Americans lend a hand to one another, nothing is impossible. We’re not about what happened on 9/11, we’re about what happened on 9/12 “ – JEFF PARNESS
