We are all living through a time of economic dislocation, pandemic, and outrage at the senseless death of George Floyd. We reject the actions that led to his death which are directly contrary to the training and the professional standards of the Susquehanna Township Police Department.
Instead, we believe, as voiced by Senator Robert F. Kennedy 52 years ago, that “what we need in the United States is not division; what we need in the United States is not hatred; what we need in the United States is not violence or lawlessness; but love and wisdom, and compassion toward one another, and a feeling of justice toward those who still suffer within our country, whether they be white or they be black.” Susquehanna Township and its Police Department believe in strict adherence to the United States Constitution’s promise of equal justice before the law.
At a time of mourning and tension across our Country, the Susquehanna Township Police Department wishes to communicate to all our citizens that our Department members believe in this Community. The Department has been committed to Community Policing for over two decades and, for the members of the Department, the term Community Policing represents a steadfast commitment to fostering an environment in which everyone understands that true justice begins with how we view and treat one another.
The best of this Township, working together, can continue Dr. King’s dream to address inequity with understanding, hatred with love, violence with peace and injustice with a commitment to talk and reason together. We are blessed to serve the Citizens of Susquehanna Township and work hard to put that blessing to the service of our Citizens every day.
In furtherance of our commitment to Community Policing, we are excited to announce today a new weekly video that will be shared on our Social Media venues for children. It is titled “Wednesday Workouts with Winners”. Our Children are winners, and our Officers will be guiding the Children of the Township through fitness workouts.
