Dauphin County District Attorney Edward Marsico, Jr., hopes to enjoy this Sunday’s Super Bowl game without any interruptions from police calling to notify him that they are responding to a fatal automobile crash involving an impaired driver. “The score I am looking to achieve this weekend is a 00-00 final score. That is zero driving under the influence (DUI) incidents and zero deaths due to DUI impaired drivers.”
Marsico joins C. Stephen Erni, of the PA DUI Association, in encouraging fans to add sober driving to Sunday’s list of Super Bowl activities. "Drunk driving is completely preventable," said Erni. "All it takes is a little planning. We want fans to remember that it's a choice. Drink or drive-but never do both as responsible adults."
Anyone hosting/attending a private home Super Bowl party or a public establishment is encouraged to designate a sober driver or make alternate arrangements. Arranging for a ride home means you can enjoy the game AND arrive home safely after the festivities end. If you can't find a designated driver, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, (NHTSA) developed an APP for smart phones that allows you to choose from a list of available taxi services in your area and with the tap of a button call them or call a pre-programmed contact. It's called SaferRide, developed by the U.S. Department of Transportation's, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Remember: Driving under the influence is the most preventable crime there is in Pennsylvania simply by being a responsible driver before you get behind the wheel.
