On Monday, January 24, 2022, Dallas Haley pleaded guilty to third degree murder. Judge Edward M. Marsico, Jr. sentenced Haley to a term of imprisonment of 20 years to 40 years in a State Correctional Institution. On October 20, 2020, at approximately 1:40 a.m., a neighbor called 911 after hearing a gunshot and a scream come from Dallas Haley’s residence at 2965 Rumson Drive in the City of Harrisburg. Haley lived with his wife, Kyra Haley, and several small children. When police arrived, they found Kyra Haley on the floor, unresponsive and bleeding from a gunshot wound to her left shoulder area. There was a gun on the floor near Kyra. The police investigation revealed that Dallas Haley and Kyra had been arguing that night when Dallas retrieved a loaded handgun and used it to intimidate Kyra. While doing so, Dallas Haley fired a single gunshot, which struck Kyra and caused injuries that ultimately proved fatal.
Family members and friends described Kyra Haley as having an inner “light” that gave joy and comfort to those around her. Her smile was contagious. She was a loving caretaker, who looked after her younger sisters as well as her own children. According to those close to Kyra, “she put great effort into celebrating special days and she cared deeply every day. We know nothing can ever replace the light she brought into our lives, but we hope her story can inspire others to carry a small piece of that forward.”
Detective Jason Brinker of the Harrisburg Bureau of Police conducted the investigation that led to the charge and conviction. First Assistant District Attorney Mike Sprow and Deputy District Attorney Chelsea Robbins prosecuted the case. Haley will not be eligible for parole until October 20, 2040.
