Members of the Dauphin County District Attorney’s Office and their family members volunteered their time Sunday, December 21, 2014, to serve dinner to the families staying at the Ronald McDonald House of Central Pennsylvania. The event, which is part of the Ronald McDonald House’s Chef for a Day program, was organized by District Attorney Victim Witness Coordinator Jacky Cline. The Ronald McDonald House provides comfort, support, and rest for families of seriously ill children in a compassionate and cozy, home-like environment. The House provides bedrooms with private baths for up to 35 families of children. This weekend the House was full to capacity.
Jacky Cline summed up what participating in the Chef for a Day program meant to all the participants, “It truly was an honor to do something for the families. It makes you realize how lucky we all are. When a child has cancer, not only the emotional burden is on the family but also financial burden as well. Ronald McDonald house tries to take away some of their burdens. This will be a tradition from now on in the DA’s office.” Jacky was joined by other District Attorney chefs Jennifer Gettle, Julie Stoessel and her daughter Harley, Susan Kolanda, Abby & Kyle Trovinger, Kristyne Sharpe, Kristie Falbo and Stefanie Flick.
The Ronald McDonald Charity’s Hershey House is one of over 282 Ronald McDonald Houses worldwide. Each year the House serves over 1,000 out-of-town families whose children are patients at Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital. Stays at the Hershey Ronald McDonald House are completely free-of-charge.
