Judge Scott Arthur Evans sentenced Samuel Velazquez, 27, of Harrisburg, to serve at least 8 ½ years and up to 17 ½ years in state prison for possession with intent to deliver fentanyl. On November 4, 2018, Susquehanna Township Police Officer Ben Lauver conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle in which Velazquez was a passenger. Based upon odor of marijuana , officers lawfully searched the car and found approximately 88 grams of fentanyl and as well as a small amount of marijuana. Chief Deputy District Attorney Stephen R. Zawisky prosecuted the case and noted that the street value of the fentanyl was approximately $15,000 and that the 88 grams of fentanyl could potentially fill as many as 3000 baggies. Zawisky praised the outstanding work of the Susquehanna Township Police Department. This seizure stopped the deadly drug from reaching the streets where it may very well have caused potentially deadly overdoses.
