On September 24, 2015 defendant Patrick Corbin waived a Forgery charge to the Court of Common Pleas before the Honorable William Wenner. Corbin, a 51-year-old Baltimore resident who self-reports as homeless, was allegedly recruited by unknown individuals to cash a forged check at a Lower Paxton bank on or before July 1, 2015. Corbin faces similar allegations in York, Lancaster, and Chester Counties. The conspirators, who allegedly offered to pay Corbin a sum of money if he would cash the checks for these individuals, have not been identified by Lower Paxton Police to date.
Law enforcement officials around the country have identified similar financial frauds in which individuals exploit homeless people. Dating back to 2013, law enforcement and homeless advocacy groups have identified these cases as part of a wider issue, and called the cases “Operation Homeless”. Corbin is next schedule for formal arraignment on November 18, 2015. Detective James Glucksman of the Lower Paxton Township Police Department is the investigating and arresting officer in the case.
Note: The charges in this matter are mere allegations at this time and Corbin is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
