GARY MATEER, JR. CONVICTED AND SENTENCED FOR INDECENT ASSAULT OF A CHILD
Earlier this month, Judge Scott Arthur Evans sentenced Gary Mateer, Jr. to 7 years of probation, with sex offender conditions, on charges of corruption of minors, unlawful contact with a minor, and indecent assault of a person under 13 years of age. The defendant must now register on Megan’s Law as a lifetime offender. Mateer is 43-years-old.
On March 18, 2019, the Pennsylvania State Police, Lykens Barracks, received notification of a child sexual abuse investigation from York County. Earlier that day, the minor child, a five-year-old girl, indicated during a forensics interview that the defendant touched her vagina multiple times several times and that it hurt. The defendant later admitted, after failing a polygraph examination, that he had kissed the victim and touched her vaginal area. Trooper Jeffrey Goodman of the Pennsylvania State Police investigated the case. Corporal Matthew Hamilton, also of the Pennsylvania State Police, performed the polygraph examination and obtained the confession. Deputy District Attorney Erin Varley prosecuted the case and commended the work of Trooper Goodman and Corporal Hamilton on the case. “Because their investigation was so thorough, they secured a conviction without the need for a young child to testify in front of a jury.”
