Today, the Harrisburg Bureau of Police charged Gregory Edward Woods, Jr. with murder, aggravated assault, strangulation, and endangering the welfare of a child in connection with the death and abuse of the 5-year-old girl designated in the complaint as M.D. The new charges followed an autopsy on M.D. Woods had been held without bail in connection with the assault since September 27, 2022, the date of the girl's death. The criminal complaint and affidavit are attached.
Detective Andrew Bath of the Harrisburg Bureau of Police is the lead investigator. District Attorney Fran Chardo announced that the case will be prosecuted by Senior Deputy District Attorney Katie Adam. These are mere charges and the defendant remains presumed innocent. The complaint does not designate the minor victim by name because she was a minor. This is required under Pennsylvania law.
