June 11, 2018- Commonwealth v. Rasheem Drummond: On June 11, 2018, Rasheem Drummond waived his right to a preliminary hearing before MDJ O’Leary and sent his case of Aggravated Harassment by a Prisoner to the Court of Common Pleas. The charges stem from an incident that occurred on April 19, 2018, when Drummond, and inmate in Dauphin County Prison, was pending trial for Robbery. During a pre-trial court hearing, Drummond handed Deputy District Attorney Katie Adam an envelope purporting to be a letter regarding pre-trial matters. When the envelope was opened by DDA Adam in court, it was found to contain only fecal matter. In Pennsylvania, it is a crime for an inmate to cause or attempt to cause another individual to come into contact with a bodily fluid or feces.
This case was investigated by Detective John O’Conner from Dauphin County CID and is being prosecuted by Senior Deputy District Attorney Jack Canavan.
