March 11, 2015- Commonwealth v William J. Brooks: William J. Brooks, appeared before the Honorable John F. Cherry on March 11, 2015, after being scheduled for a jury trial. Instead of picking a jury, Brooks pleaded guilty to charges of Aggravated Assault and Terroristic Threats. Factually, in the early morning hours of July 29, 2013, the victim was on S. 19th Street in Harrisburg speaking with her ex-boyfriend. During this discussion, the Defendant approached the smaller female victim and engaged her in a verbal dispute. As the victim was backing up the Defendant punched her in the face with a closed fist, causing her jaw to fracture in two places. After punching the victim, the Defendant threatened to kill her. Following the assault, the victim had her jaw wired shut for approximately 8 weeks. Additionally, after evading investigators for over three months, Harrisburg police officers located the Defendant at a residence on S. 14th Street in the City of Harrisburg. Instead of surrendering to the arrest warrant, the Defendant jumped out of a second-story window in an attempt to escape, but instead he suffered a compound fracture to his leg. After pleading guilty the Defendant was sentenced, pursuant to a negotiated plea agreement, to serve 3 ½ - 10 years in a state correctional institution. Deputy District Attorney Andrew Jarbola prosecuted this case for the Commonwealth.
