On July 14, 2021, a Dauphin County jury convicted Dolly Hendrickes, age 40, of first-degree murder. On October 10, 2019, Hendrickes and her boyfriend, Andres Claudio Sr, age 68, got into a verbal argument regarding family issues in her van while driving on Cameron Street in Harrisburg. While the van was stopped at a red light at the intersection of Cameron and Maclay Streets in Harrisburg, Claudio exited the van in attempt to get away from Hendrickes, the driver. As Claudio walked away onto a nearby median, Hendrickes drove the van across two lanes of traffic and struck Claudio from behind. Hendrickes completely ran Claudio over and dragged him about 25 feet.
She then fled the scene and drove to her home in Susquehanna Township where she was apprehended a short time later by Susquehanna Township police officers. Claudio died shortly after from numerous traumatic injuries. Several civilian witnesses observed the crime and stayed with Claudio until police and EMS workers arrived. After a two day trial, the jury convicted Hendrickes of first-degree murder. On July 15, 2021, Judge Richard A. Lewis imposed a sentence of life imprisonment.
Chief Deputy District Attorney Stephen R. Zawisky and Deputy District Attorney Julia Jacobs prosecuted the case. Zawisky noted that the victim was a hard working man and an innocent victim of an awful crime. He and Jacobs applauded the efforts of the good citizens who remained at the scene with the victim to render aid and testified at trial. Harrisburg Bureau of Police Detective Paula Trovy conducted the thorough investigation that led to a just verdict. The video footage of the striking, entered as an exhibit at trial, is below.
