On Thursday, January 21, 2021, Judge William T. Tully sentenced Kehinde Adewumi, age 53, to serve 14 to 28 months in a state correctional facility for an indecent assault that occurred in November of 2018. Detective Nina Maus of the Harrisburg Bureau of Police charged Adewumi for the assault he committed upon on a 27-year old intellectually and physically disabled woman. At the time of the assault, the defendant worked as a care provider with the Easy U Do agency. The defendant was supposed to take the woman to ABC East bowling alley to attend an event for disabled individuals. Instead, Adewumi took the young woman back to his home in the City of Harrisburg and indecently assaulted her. During the sentencing, the mother of the victim gave an impassioned impact statement. “We pray that you search your heart and soul and repent your sins to become a better person. Learn from your mistakes and change for the better.” Judge Tully echoed the mother’s sentiments, telling Adewumi, “you violated a duty of trust to care for this disabled woman—that is an aggravating factor.”
Chief Deputy District Attorney Jennifer Gettle advised the court that in addition to the current set of charges, the defendant also received a 3-year prison sentence in federal court for drug offenses. “Since the defendant is a foreign national, once he completes the prison portion of his sentences, the Commonwealth believes that he will face deportation to Nigeria.” In addition to the prison sentence, Judge Tully imposed a consecutive two-year term of probation and placed Adewumi on the Megan’s Law registry for 25 years.
