Joseph Bahret has pled guilty to two counts of misdemeanor harassment related to an incident that occurred July 19, 2014 in the City of Harrisburg. The incident took place at the Backyard Bash, an annual fundraising event. During the event, Bahret got into a physical and verbal altercation with a man and a woman and during this incident he did physically assault the victims. Bahret was sentenced to probation on the charges.
During the pendency of the case, the District Attorney’s Office was contacted by the Pennsylvania State Police related to a past conviction of Bahret. In November 2000, Bahret pled guilty to Incest and Corruption of Minors related to the sexual assault of a minor. Bahret was contacted several times to attempt to gain compliance with the registration requirements and Bahret never registered as required. The District Attorney’s Office Criminal Investigation Division and the assigned prosecutor did meet with members of PSP to review the case and determined that based upon Bahret’s conviction, his failure to register, and changes in the law, Bahret was now required to register for life. Bahret was informed of his duty to register and given a deadline by which he was required to comply or the appropriate charges would be filed. Bahret has filed a Petition for Writ of Mandamus and Preliminary and Final Injunction with the Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania to enjoin the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and PSP from placing his name and identifying information on the Pennsylvania Registry of Megan’s Law Offenders. This action is still pending with the Commonwealth Court.
