November 6, 2015- Commonwealth v Floyd M Lebo: On November 6, 2015, Judge Scott A. Evans sentenced Floyd M. Lebo, 53 of Steelton, to four to ten years in state prison for causing several Driving Under the Influence related accidents on April 3, 2015. Pursuant to a plea agreement, after serving at least the next three and a half years in state prison, Lebo will be on parole supervision until 2025. On April 3, 2015, Lebo crashed a vehicle he was driving into the back of another vehicle on Derry Street in Swatara Township. The vehicle he crashed into then struck a third vehicle. Lebo then attempted to flee the scene and backed up into a fourth vehicle causing even more damage. Lebo then struck one of the drivers who had exited their vehicle in an attempt to flag him down to stop. The driver suffered minor injuries. Lebo then continued to drive his vehicle down Derry Street and crashed into a fifth vehicle which contained three more people. One of the occupants of that vehicle suffered significant back and neck injuries. Lebo then finally drove into a nearby parking lot where he was apprehended by off-duty Steelton police officer William Shaub who luckily came across the accident scene and followed Lebo.
Lebo, who had a blood alcohol content of .232%, pleaded guilty to Driving Under the Influence (D.U.I.) and several counts each of Accidents Involving Damage to Property, Accidents Involving Injury and Recklessly Endangering Another Person. Lebo was convicted of D.U.I. on three prior occasions and was on probation at the time of this accident for a 2010 D.U.I. in York County.
In addition to the stiff prison sentence, Lebo received over $2500 in fines and was ordered to pay restitution to the various victims. At sentencing, Lebo showed remorse for his actions and apologized. He admitted that he was so drunk he couldn’t remember much of what happened.
The case was investigated by Swatara Township Police Officer Dennis Krahling and prosecuted by Senior Deputy District Attorney Stephen R. Zawisky. Zawisky stated: “Despite Mr. Lebo recently taking the necessary steps to take care of his alcohol problem, he needs to pay the price for his reckless conduct. Despite being inebriated and causing an accident, he kept driving in an attempt to get away. He is lucky someone didn’t die as a result of his actions.”
